POSITION: EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST
CERTIFICATION LEVEL 1

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Certified by the State Board of Education in accordance with the established standards.

2. Ability to effectively engage with students of diverse needs and backgrounds, fostering positive interactions with various stakeholders such as administrators, parents, teachers, students, and visitors.

3. Proficient in verbal and written communication skills.

4. Demonstrated competence in fulfilling assigned duties.

5. Possesses a sense of humor and works harmoniously with all members of the educational community.

6. Any equivalent qualifications acceptable to the educational institution.

PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: Building Principal, overseeing general education classrooms and specialist teachers.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
1. Aid educators in maintaining a well-structured, engaging class environment to enhance student learning.

2. Foster a safe and nurturing educational atmosphere for students and staff, providing classroom assistance to both teachers and students.

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES (inclusive of but not restricted to):
1. Support classroom/specialist instructors as required.

2. Collaborate on educational activities with specific students at the teacher’s direction.

3. Assist in impartially evaluating student work under the teacher’s supervision.

4. Oversee students during educational and transition periods.

5. Safeguard student records’ confidentiality and uphold classroom privacy, referring issues to the teacher as necessary.

6. Accept assignments with any student(s) as directed by teachers.

7. Help set and maintain behavior and performance standards under the instructor’s guidance.

8. Ensure safe transportation of students as instructed by the teacher.

9. Aid in collecting student performance data under the teacher’s supervision.

10. Promptly report any student incidents to the supervising teacher.

11. Perform clerical tasks upon request by the supervising teacher.

12. Adhere to individual student plans and health protocols.

13. Work in a variety of school settings (small groups, recess, etc.).

14. Participate in professional development opportunities as required.

15. Assume any additional duties assigned by immediate supervisors.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time and part-time positions available depending on student and district needs, following the school calendar.
EVALUATION: Job performance evaluated based on School Committee procedures for support personnel.
SALARY: Variable based on district and student requirements, in accordance with the current EAPC Paraeducator contract.
