OVERVIEW: We are looking for candidates to fill the role of Laboratory Assistant. This position involves supporting laboratory operations by washing glassware, preparing specimens, and maintaining cleanliness in the laboratory environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Please note that the following are key responsibilities for this role. While individuals may perform additional duties, these tasks are essential for this position.

1. Assist in preparing laboratory tests as instructed; conduct activities such as media preparation, boiling, and specimen handling.

2. Operate various laboratory equipment including autoclaves, centrifuges, and glassware washers; perform maintenance on equipment as needed.

3. Carry out blood sample collection procedures through venous and skin punctures after proper training.

4. Maintain laboratory glassware by cleaning, drying, and storing items; ensure work areas are clean and organized.

5. Prepare chemical solutions and reagents according to specified formulas and procedures.

6. Collect specimens from wards, record data, and deliver samples to the laboratory for processing.

7. Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and materials; keep detailed records of stock levels.

8. Handle clerical tasks like processing laboratory slips, managing test requests, and entering data accurately.

9. Conduct blood sample collection procedures with proper training.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: I Education: One year experience as a Laboratory Assistant I. Or II Two years of relevant full-time work experience in clinical or crime laboratories involving media preparation, chemical handling, and equipment sterilization.
